Has served as a consultant for the design and analysis of wireless networks in numerous companies including DEC, GTE Laboratories, WINDATA, Motorola/Codex, BBN, Mitre Corp., Skyhook Wireless, and 3COM in MA, Honeywell Avionics Systems (AZ), Jet Propulsion Laboratories (CA), Nokia Mobile Phones (Finland), NTT (Japan), Savi Technologies (CA), RadioLAN (CA), LK-Products (Finland), Elektrobit (Finland), TEKES (Finland), United Technology Research Center (CT).  He has also served as a member of the board of several start up companies.

Recent Honors

• 2003: Lead the US review team for midterm evaluation of the TEKES R&D program NETS in Finland.

• 2001: Awarded the first Fulbright-Nokia Scholarship to work at the University of Oulu, Finland.

• 2000: Lead the American team to review the Finnish Academy and TEKES R&D Programs in Electronics and Telecommunication: ETX, TLX, INVITE and Telectronics (the book report is cited in the publications).

• 1999: Awarded the Nokia fellowship (the first Non-Finn to receive the award)

• 1997: Selected as a committee member of the Evolution of Untethered Communications Committee at the National Research Council to foresee the future directions for DARPA research in wireless networks (the book report is cited in the publications).

• 1996: Elected as a fellow of the IEEE for contributions in wireless networks.

• 1993-1996: Selected as the first Weston Hadden Professor of ECE, WPI

• Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Wireless Information Networks, the first journal in modern wireless networks established in 1994.

Also, technical program chair and Organizer of PIMRC’92 (Boston, MA) and PIMRC’98 (Boston, MA) and N. American liaison and co-chair for 1991 (London, UK), 1993 (Yokohama, Japan), 1994 (Hague, Netherlands), 1995 (Toronto, Canada), 1996 (Taipei, Taiwan), 1997 (Helsinki, Finland), 1999 (Osaka, Japan), 2001 (London, UK), and 2002 (Lisbon, Portugal). This conference is one the oldest and most prestigious wireless conferences and the official choice of the IEEE Communication Society.
• Founder, Organizer, and Program Chairman, IEEE workshop on Wireless Local Area Networks, 1991 (Worcester, MA), 1996 (Worcester, MA) and 2001 (Newton, MA). This is the oldest IEEE sponsored WLAN conference.

Publication/Presentation:

SUMMARY: He has given invited visionary keynote lectures and tutorials in numerous countries in the major academic institutions (such as MIT, Stanford, ETH in Switzerland, and Delft U. Of Tech. in the Netherlands) and industrial research institutions (such as David Sarnoff Research laboratories, NTT Laboratories in Japan, Nokia research laboratories in Finland) and  international conferences. He is the principal author of the Wireless Information Network, John Wiley and Sons, 1995 (co-authored by Dr. Allen Levesque of the GTE Laboratories), which is the first comprehensive text book published on the modern WIN systems and the Principles of Wireless Networks - A Unified Approach, Prentice Hall 2002 (co-authored by Prof. P. Krishnamurthy of the University of Pittsburgh). He has also contributed to a number of book chapters, more than 150 technical papers and two patents. He has supervised the research efforts of numerous Ph.D., M.S. and undergraduate students in wireless information networks.
